Itinerant Teacher for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (DdHh)
LOCATION: Center for Education Services
TERMS: Unit I Salary Scale, 7.
5 Hours Per Day, 10-Month Work Year
Role Overview: The Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (DdHh) provides direct and or consultive educational services to Deaf and Hard-of-hearing students from birth to 21 years of age and supports related staff as needed and or required.
Note: DdHh students must have a documented hearing loss prior to a referral to the Itinerant DdHh Teacher.
In addition, audiological examination must be current within one year.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s or advanced degree with eligibility for MSDE teacher certification in appropriate field.
Positive interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, and parents.
Knowledge and use of materials and technology for specialized instruction.
Effective oral and written communications and human relations skills.
Understanding of the teaching/learning/assessment process.
Maintain regular, on-time attendance, documentation services, and compliance.
Capable of performing essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:
Proficiency in American Sign Language.
Experience in a variety of age levels and school settings from B-21+
Bachelor’s degree or advance degree with MSDE certification in deaf education.
Familiarity with Washington County Public Schools goals, programs, and policies.
Knowledge of current DdHh research and its application to the field of specialization.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Effectively communicate with parents about students’ progress.
Develop Individualized Education Programs based upon students’ needs.
Ability to interpret and understand audiological reports and examinations.
Complete appropriate screenings and assessments to determine students’ needs.
Provide services for DdHh children based upon Individualized Education Programs.
Provide professional development on hearing loss, use of FM systems and other identified training needs for staff.
Develop daily lesson plans aligned with IEP goals and objectives and with Maryland’s State Department of Education Curriculum.
Collaborate with Educational Interpreters (EIs) on a frequent or as needed basis, as determined student needs, IEPA, and their assignments.
Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools, including parents and other Related Service providers.
Function in cooperative situations with special education and regular education teachers to plan and provide educational activities for deaf and hard of hearing students.
Orders and maintains inventory of DdHh materials and equipment.
Collaborates and plans with appropriate agencies in service of DdHh students.
Maintains records and appropriate documentation for all DdHh students as required.
Attends school and county IEP and MSDE State Steering Committee Meetings/Conferences as appropriate.
Maintains appropriate inventories and performs minor maintenance on classroom amplification systems or contact appropriate agencies for maintenance and service.
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
