Overview:
Shenandoah Oncology is looking for a Pharmacy Technician to join our practice who demonstrates attention to detail, teamwork, and excellent customer service.
Under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist working within a licensed pharmacy, performs the technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control.
Tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse, a registered pharmacist, or a physician.
The position is Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 4:30 p.
m.

Responsibilities: Verifies patient demographics, insurance information, and prescription information in the oral dispensary.
Processes the prescription and bills insurance for payment of oral medications.
Troubleshoots Medicare Part B verification requirements of oral prescriptions.
Checks for drug interactions when processing oral medications.
Tracks and reports monthly inventory in the computer.
Ensures that the most cost-effective drugs are ordered from vendors.
Labels prescriptions and ensures they are checked correctly by providers.
Ensures prescriptions and paperwork are being signed off on by a provider when dispensing oral medications.
Obtains patient's signature on all oral medications being dispensed.
File and store prescriptions for oral medications.
Assists with the preparation of IV medication orders by compounding or admixing.

Checks all IV orders for completeness of the information.
Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by the physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and prepares all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
Assists in counting controlled drugs and maintaining records.
Properly disposes of all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, and accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
Provide support with inventory control of medications.
Files and prepares to bill.
Basic data entry into department automation.
File and maintain daily reports in the oral dispensary.
Documents all interactions with the patient in the EMR.
Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum three to five years' experience in a pharmacy setting.
Prior IV admixture training is a plus.
A certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement is recommended.
