Sustainable Solutions, LLC is an natural resource management company based in Shepherdstown, WV that works throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
We are seeking a full-time Foreman.
The Foreman will be responsible for working independently or supervising a team to conduct a variety of conservation and restoration activities, including: invasive plant control, forest and meadow restoration, prescribed fire, tree planting, and ecological mapping and inventory projects, for government agencies, nonprofits, and private landowners.
The Foreman will work to plan, manage, and implement natural resource restoration and conservation services.
The Foreman will have essential functions in the office, field and shop to deliver the highest quality natural resource management services to our clients.
Work will involve leading a crew in extensive outdoor physical labor in diverse weather conditions and may require working some weekends.
Applicants must be self-starters with superior technical, mechanical, physical, and supervisory abilities.
Minimum 2 years of Natural Resource Management and 2 years Crew Supervision is required.
Wildland firefighting training (FFT1 or greater) and commercial herbicide applicators license is required.
Some overnight travel is required.
*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:* *Office* - Work with Team to prioritize and schedule field tasks.
- Coordinate weekly team schedule and verify that the needed equipment, fleet, and machines, and crew members are available - Manage project budgets and track job costs - Prepare estimates based on client expectations and job details - Interact directly with clients and/or points of contact on a weekly basis to address needs and project timelines -Develop budget and estimates as needed.
-Enter field data into Company CRM system *Field* - Coordinate field activities weekly based on weather and site conditions - Report daily field operations using company systems - Perform routine inspection and education of jobsite safety and operation activities - Work within a range of outdoor environments and field conditions and job specifications closely.
- Participate in weekly field operations planning and debriefing meetings - Perform physical work for extended and irregular periods, under adverse conditions and in all extremes of weather - Ensure crew follow safety guidelines and precautions specified for particular work and vehicle operations - Operate and maintain a range of equipment, machinery and off-road vehicles, such as 4x4 pickups, ATVs, tractor, trailers, pumps, hoses, chain saws and hand tools.
- Travel to project site, maintain a flexible work schedule, and occasionally work on weekends - Coordinate activities concerned with field operations - Design Natural Resource management plans - Conduct Ecosystem inventoryand mapping *Shop* - Use electronic resource checklists and maintain company maintenance databases and coordinate repairs as needed - Ensure a clean and safe work environment in the shop at all times - Pick up and deliver rental equipment/ parts from outside vendors - Ordering needed parts and supplies using reference material as required, and communicate with outside vendors and suppliers - Recognize and communicate repairs needed to fleet, machines, and equipment and coordinate repairs as needed - Ensure that all machinery and tools are available to the crew and everything is in proper order and state of maintenance - Create and maintain positive working relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely procurement of supplies and materials - Ensure that all materials, supplies, tools and equipment are procured in a time efficient manner - Ensure periodic maintenance and proper storage of construction equipment and tools *REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:* -Education or background in natural resources - Minimum 2 years Leadership experience - Minimum 5 year Experience of fieldwork in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, Ecology or related field - Knowledge of invasive plant species - Experience with natural plant communities of the Mid-Atlantic - Strong mechanical aptitude and technical ability - Strong work ethic with a commitment to conservation - Management experience in field setting involving multi crew management - Experience operating various types of hand tools and equipment - Excellent communication and technology skills - Good physical condition: includes the ability to carry a 45 pound pack over uneven terrain in under 45 minutes - Must have valid drivers license and safe driving record - Customer service experience - Wildland fire Red Card 20 paid days off, 14 paid holidays, Cash Project Bonuses Job Type: Full-time Pay: $25.
