The Heavy Diesel Truck Mechanic will retrofit/modify transmission and drivetrain systems on new trucks as part of a modification program.
Essential Functions:
Remove and replace existing transmissions with the new modified transmissions, test and troubleshoot any issues.
Install modifications to auxiliary power units.
Install or modify internal wire harnesses, dashboards, or internal cab components.
Install or modify steering components or hydraulics.
Use diagnostic equipment and specialized tools to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
Follow installation manuals, technical specifications, and company guidelines to ensure accurate and efficient modifications.
Keep detailed records of all modifications in accordance with customer requirements.
Collaborate with other team members to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
Conduct road tests and post-modification inspections to ensure the quality of the installation and identify any additional problems.
Communicate effectively with our customer’s management teams and supervisors, providing explanations of any issues around the installation of the modifications.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring proper storage of tools, equipment, and parts.
Adhere to safety procedures and guidelines, promoting a safe working environment for yourself and others.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a formal vocational training program in diesel mechanics is preferred.
Proven experience as a Truck Heavy Mechanic or similar role, with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
Proficient in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems.
Familiarity with repair manuals, technical specifications, and computerized systems used in modern trucks.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy equipment and perform manual tasks.
Candidate must have their own mechanics tool set.
