Position Summary (A Day in the Life)
Responsible for the supervision of all production functions in the facilities, on designated shift.
Primary Responsibilities: Can volunteer and/or be assigned as a Product Safety Committee team member, responsibilities include facilitating the meetings, assists with the Chemical Control program, and assists with the purchasing of in-house chemicals.
Can volunteer and/or be assigned to be part of the HACCP team member assists in facilitating the HACCP meetings per the requirements of the Third-Party Auditing procedures.
Responsibilities include assists with the Chemical Control program and assists with the purchasing of in-house chemicals.
Work directly with other department managers to ensure production needs.
Helps ensure that the facility is kept clean and orderly, and all cleaning duties are appropriately assigned to all production personnel per SQF/HACCP standards/specifications.
Continuously improves product safety and product quality performance at the plant.
Helps ensure that all company “Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP’S) are adhered to at all times.
Can volunteer and/or be assigned to be on or a back-up to any employee Safety Team.
Instruct and train employees in safety, ensure duties are performed in accordance with safety regulations, while leading by example ensuring own actions are performed in accordance with safety regulations.
Correct and report any unsafe conditions.
Follow coaching/corrective action procedures if employees engage in any unsafe acts.
Ensure that all employees always have and use proper safety equipment.
Correctly prepare reports and documentation concerning minor or major accidents Train machine operators in the proper operation procedures on all production equipment.
Help train line workers in the proper methods of packing or palletizing production.
Train all employees in the efficient and effective methods of operations.
Informs maintenance department when production/quality cannot be met, due to equipment issues.
Ensures the production schedule is maintained with proper level of staffing.
Must help cover scheduled and unscheduled days off, from other shift supervisors.
Schedule and hold daily weekly and monthly shift production meetings.
Ensure employees can properly identify scrap or waste materials (Corrugation, resin etc.
) Ensures the proper tagging and storage of materials (regrind, waste, etc.
) Must help reduce the amount of scrap waste within the facilities.
Ensure all employees take the appropriate breaks times.
Help maintain scheduling of production to meet customer needs and maintain the lowest possible labor/overtime costs.
Maintain housekeeping schedules outlined for any and assigned areas (i.
e.
shop area, lunchrooms, restrooms etc.
).
Help schedule and maintain appropriate manning level to meet the shifts production requirements.
Review and calculate employee timecards weekly.
Prepare and input daily production documentation/reporting into the in-house computer inventory system.
Post/maintain all employees’ attendance records, or ensures that any call-ins, scheduled absence, etc.
, are reported to Administrative Assistant in a timely manor.
Verify employee weekly timecards.
Help monitor vacation schedules.
Apply appropriate corrective action procedures as necessary; document any action taken, including casual discussions, which may lead to future action.
Aids Quality Assurance Department to ensure all production meets or exceeds quality standards.
Ensures all finished product, meets or exceeds customer expectations.
Assist co-workers where needed and/or be assigned additional tasks within this job classification and/or below classifications.
Experience/Education: .
High school graduate or equivalent GED, or demonstrated ability to read, write, follow verbal or written instructions given in English.
Technical School training or equivalent experience preferred.
Two- (2) years supervision experience.
NOTE: EMPLOYEES HIRED AS TRAINEES WHO DO NOT HAVE HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION MAY NOT QUALIFY FOR PROMOTION AND SHOULD PURSUE THE GED.
Requires constant visual attention; ability to discern flaws in containers.
Must know and be able to assist in the training of all lower classification employees on the in-house computer inventory systems for production.
Must be able to prepare and analyze data and figures.
Know Quality Control Orientation Program.
Must be skilled in managing and directing employees, promoting team atmosphere, implementing policy.
Receive Parker Plastics Forklift Certification within 90 days of employment.
Supervisor must have positive attendance points to continue cross training program.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50-75 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 30-40 pounds frequently, and/or up to 25-49 pounds constantly.
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
