Position: Plumber II Location: Maintenance Department Division: Administration & Support Services Responsibility: To assist in the school system’s maintenance program through plumbing work Accountable to: Supervisor of Maintenance Start Date: February 6, 2024 Salary: G Paygrade with years of WV School Experience (Minimum $37,401.
30-Maximum $55,645.
20) plus the supplement for having the Plumbing License of $1,050 competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5; Meet the definition of “Qualifications" in WV Code §18A-4-8b; Demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test), as required.
WV Journeyman Plumbing License PERFORMANCE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Adhering to appropriate safety, hygiene, and health standards and maintaining safety of work area.

Demonstrates appropriate safety, hygiene and health standards; Demonstrates safety of work area; Adheres to schedules; demonstrates punctuality; Willing to be called out in emergency situations; Demonstrates flexibility and adjusts to change; Performs duties in full compliance with state and county requirements; Responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair of water and waste disposal systems; Receives work assignments, reviews and obtains needed supplies, organizes a work plan to complete the task; Notifies supervisor of unexpected problems that cannot be solved within the expected work plan; Measures, cuts, threads, assembles, and installs pipes and tubing; Checks plumbing systems to detect leaks; Eliminates leaks by replacing valves, faulty fittings or sections in line; Unstops commodes, drains, sewer lines, and cleans grease traps; Installs water, sanitary fixtures and equipment with supports, hangers or foundations; Connects valves, caulks joints, and tests finished job by allowing water to flow through; Replaces worn parts; Makes corrections, as needed; Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective function of the work unit including, but not limited to, mowing, snow removal, and moving various items/equipment; Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Berkeley County School’s Policy; Performs duties as assigned by immediate supervisor(s).
Demonstrated proficiency through previous job experience and/or training in related field; Possess and maintains a valid WV driver’s license; Ability to read and interpret work orders; Ability to effectively discuss and respond to questions from administrators, staff and general public; Ability to add, subtract, divide, multiply in all units of measure consistent with the duties of this position; Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations consistent with duties of this position; Ability to interface effectively with other departments, school personnel, maintenance staff, business contacts and contractors; Ability to work in tight spaces, to climb and to bend; Ability to work on ladders and assemble scaffolds; Ability to operate and maintain motorized lifts; Ability to read and understand plumbing diagrams and programs dealing with plumbing systems; Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form; Ability to accurately perform assigned tasks; and Ability to perform duties in full compliance with the county requirements and the Board of Education policies.
