The Buyer/Planner plans and maintains the throughput of material, controlling inventory levels of purchased goods, work in process, and finished products to ensure all customer demands are met.
The Buyer/Planner coordinates activities and efforts required for optimum material utilization and directs the materials needed to support our production plans.
Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities
Collaborate with production teams to develop production plans and schedules that meet customer demand while optimizing production efficiency.
Communicates with shop supervision to verify production performance against the plan, then adjusts schedules as necessary, providing feedback to Customer Service.
Purchases raw materials, components, and services from a worldwide supply base for the assigned factory.
Works with suppliers and the Caldwell Purchasing team to optimize inventory turns and resolve quality and delivery issues.
Analyzes computerized requirements planning (MRP) to schedule all parts under their control.
Reviews capacity restrictions and load summaries of the parts responsible for.
Ensure proper utilization of resources/equipment.
Responsible for the creation of work orders and purchase orders.
Minimizes inventory investments and assures maximum manufacturing efficiencies.
Schedules and expedites drop-in orders.
Coordinates and conducts cycle counting.
Manages the daily expediting process, including running manufacturing orders (MOs), confirming available inventory, and expediting shortages.
Ensure compliance with all relevant procurement, inventory management, and production planning regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Three to Five Years of production planning, purchasing, and materials management experience in manufacturing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and organizational skills.
Experience in operations, inventory management, MRP, and lean manufacturing processes.
Educational & Certification
Associate degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or Operations-related is required.
A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
APICS certification a plus
Software Skills
Proficient in ERP/MRP systems experience
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
