*Heavy Equipment Operator/Foreman* *Reports to: Road Chair Person* *Pay Schedule: Weekly* *Summary:* Supervisor to oversee and train additional road crew employees.
Performs the skilled journey-level work required to operate and maintain various types of heavy motorized construction, repair equipment and dump trucks.
*Major Duties/Essential Functions:* Supervise and train direct reports.
Oversee daily operations.
Assign daily and weekly job schedules for road crew employees.
Operates motor graders, scrapers, crawler loaders, backhoe, mini excavator, skid steer, roller, and related heavy motorized equipment.
Makes cuts and fills finished grades, excavates trenches, digs culverts.
Cleans creeks & streams, excavates silt from ditches.
Transports heavy motorized equipment to designated locations.
Drives dump trucks and other vehicles as assigned.
Inspects equipment daily and performs maintenance such as changing oil, checking fluids, diagnosing tread wear and replacing batteries.
Responsible for the upkeep of common areas.
Keeps records and makes reports of work accomplished and materials used.
Performs related duties as required or assigned.
*Supervision Received or Given:* Receives limited supervision.
Will provide guidance and assistance to full/part time and/or hourly employees, as assigned.
*Qualifications:* *Education Required* Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
*Education Preferred* Completion of apprentice-level training in the operation of heavy motorized equipment.
*Professional Experience Required* Three (3) years of progressively more responsible motorized equipment operation experience, one (1) year of which must have been at the journey level.
*Professional Certification and/or Licensure Required* Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator’s license with a good driving record.
May be required to operate a commercial motor vehicle, as defined below, and possess a Commercial Driver’s License CDL-B.
“Commercial Motor Vehicle” is defined as a motor vehicle or combination of motor vehicles used in commerce to transport passengers or property if the motor vehicle has any of the following: A gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds inclusive of a towed unit with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds.
A gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds.
Is designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.
Is it any size and is used in the transportation of hazardous materials requiring placards.
*Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required* Knowledge of the methods and skills in the use of equipment, materials, and tools appropriate for motorized equipment operation.
Knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions.
Knowledge of local, state and national laws.
Ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers manuals.
Ability to estimate time and material needs, perform routine tasks and arithmetic computations.
*Additional Requirements:* May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
*Work Environment/Physical Requirements* This job requires strength, agility, dexterity, and visual acuity to perform all tasks.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must adhere to all site safety regulations and may be required to regularly stand, sit, walk, bend, climb ladders, and/or kneel.
There may be exposure to extreme heat and cold, outdoor environments, heavy equipment, moving machinery, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noises.
This job requires lifting up to 25lbs.
