*Position: Part-Time 4 th /5 th Grade PE Teacher/Upper School Coach*
Performance Responsibilities:
Collaboration and Curriculum Design:
● Assist with planning, designing, implementing, and assessing an appropriate instructional
program in an elementary environment that guides and encourages a diverse group of students at all levels to develop and fulfill their potential.
Teaching Responsibilities:
● Teach 4th and 5th Grade Physical Education and Coach Upper School Sports
Effective Instruction:
● Promotes healthy academic and social behaviors in children in a developmentally appropriate manner and continues to positively reinforce these behaviors on a consistent basis.
● Sound knowledge of team sports including skills, drills, lead-up games, and rules of the game being taught.
● Fosters independence through the gradual release of responsibilities by allowing students to develop skills to perform tasks without assistance.
Classroom Management:
● Create a positive and safe learning environment, meeting Powhatan's high expectations
for students.
● Personalizes instruction based upon the needs of the students.
● Assesses student growth as related to educational goals, objectives, and outcomes
Student Well-being and Community Support:
● Work collaboratively with others in the school community to support each student’s
emotional well-being.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
● Assume a share of supervisory responsibilities expected of all Middle School Faculty
members.
Communication Skills:
● Utilize effective and professional oral and written communication skills.
Professional Development:
● Commit to and attend all professional development as an educator, drawing from
the experience and ideas of peer teachers.
*Qualifications:*
● Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
Master's degree preferred but not
required.
● Experience teaching physical education and coaching is a plus.
