Special education teachers will provide specially designed instruction with a focus on strengthening students' skill set through instruction in academic and workplace readiness skills based on the Standards of Learning in VA.
Students may have a variety of disabilities, including Specific Learning Disability, Other Health Impairment, and Emotional Disabilities among others.
This position will support special education students in the general classroom setting.
Multiple layers of support are provided for special education teachers by team members, administrators and district supervisors.
Applicants must be eligible for, or hold, a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education - General Curriculum K-12 or LD or Special Education Adapted Curriculum K-12.
Candidates must be proficient in applying the principles of curriculum planning, learning and teaching as they relate to the role of a high school special education teacher.
Excellent human relations, interpersonal communications, conflict resolution, organizational and planning skills are required.
Must have the ability to recognize and respond to individual student differences.
Must be able to work in a collaborative and cooperative manner with parents, co-workers, school staff and service providers.
The salary range is $50,000 - $91,809 (salary scale 23-24).
This position is effective immediately.
