Shenandoah University’s Division of Education & Leadership is accepting applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Education Studies - Special Education K-12.
This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia, and our Scholar Plaza location in Leesburg, Virginia.
The Division of Education & Leadership at Shenandoah University provides a range of educational programs, including bachelor’s degrees, professional certificates, and master’s degrees in teacher education.
We also offer graduate programs in educational administration and organizational leadership, along with doctoral programs in leadership.
All Education Licensure programs have received accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and approval by the Virginia Department of Education
The candidate will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate or graduate level courses each academic year in education studies in online, hybrid, and face-to-face formats
Advise/mentor students in special education and graduate teaching programs, including service on dissertation committees;
Assist with the practicum/internships, student recruitment, program accreditation, and program development;
Establish and maintain strong networking relationships with area schools and practicing special educators;
Provide service to the department, college, university, and community; and pursue an active research agenda that contributes to the department, university, and the profession
Required Experience
Qualifications:
An earned doctorate in special education from an accredited institution.
Hold or are eligible to hold a Virginia Teaching License in Special Education.
A record of successful teaching in public schools serving special needs populations.
ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2024
Demonstrated commitment to teaching, working with diverse populations, and serving as an active member of the university community
The Department of Education Studies offers undergraduate and graduate degree and professional certificate programs leading to teacher licensure in Virginia.
We seek candidates with knowledge of current practices, trends, and research in education, a deep understanding of pedagogy and best classroom practices, and the ability to apply this understanding in student-centered inquiry-driven programs.
Additional and Preferred Qualifications
Strong skills in teaching preservice and in-service teachers
Experience working with CAEP-accredited teacher licensure programs
Experience and commitment to preparing individuals to work with diverse student populations, constituencies, and communities
Skill in supervising practicum/internship
Ability to build and maintain partnerships with school districts, professional groups, and other agencies
Expertise in teaching k-12 English language learners
Ability to work within a collaborative university environment
Commitment to diversity and inclusion consistent with the university’s mission
A style marked by integrity, transparency, and fairness
Potential for scholarly contributions to the field, research, and professional development activities
