This position will serve as a member of the senior leadership team and report directly to the President of the Academy.
This role will work closely with the Dean of Instructional Leadership and Innovation to develop and implement innovative and modern teaching and learning for students in grades 6-12.
In addition to academics, this role will take on the lead in the day to day operations of the middle school which consists of approximately 80+ students and 9 faculty and one support administrative assistant.
This is a full-time, 12 month, benefitted, exempt level position.
The start date for this position is July 1, 2024.
*Duties and Responsibilities*
* Serve as the key leader for the Middle School and its programs including academics, discipline, student life and residential life.
* Monitor academic and behavioral progress and handle disciplinary issues in the MS in a positive and effective manner.
* Manage and operate the Middle School as a distinct, cost-effective business operation within the Academy’s operational enterprise.
* Champion curriculum development and educational innovation in a student centered environment for learning.
* Supervise the Head Student Life Supervisor and support student life operations in the dorm and throughout the campus where Middle School students engage outside the classroom.
* Consult as needed with the Commandant of Cadets and act as the final authority on all disciplinary actions involving Middle School students, short of dismissal and make recommendations to the Academy President in those cases the incumbent believes merit consideration for dismissal.
* Develop and inspire effective teams.
* Supervise, develop, and evaluate MS faculty and staff to ensure consistency in growth and accountability.
* Work collaboratively to foster a positive teaching and learning environment for both students and teachers.
* Facilitate development of rigorous curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on student centered learning in partnership with the Dean of Instructional Leadership and Innovation.
* Collaborate with the Dean of Instructional Leadership and Innovation and Division Chairs in hiring, onboarding, and mentoring new faculty.
* Develop trusting and positive relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff.
* Communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents/guardians, faculty, and staff.
* Assist in the admissions process by evaluating applicants in a timely manner and striving to build programming to grow enrollment and increase retention.
* Be a consistent presence on campus throughout the day and during sporting events and other events throughout the week and weekend.
* Participate in the weekend duty program.
*Knowledge, Experience, Education, and Competencies*
* Must believe in and support the mission and vision of the Academy.
* A Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field is preferred.
A Bachelor’s degree is required.
* 5+ years of experience in teaching with at least 1+ years of leadership experience.
* Strategic and visionary thinker.
* Deep understanding of the needs of middle school students and how to support their growth and potential.
* Experience in or a passion for working with middle school students.
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish solid positive working relationships
* Approachable and accessible.
* Ability to exercise sound judgment.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information with the highest ethical standards and meticulous attention to detail.
* Prefer independent, boarding school experience and be excited about the challenges and rewards of working in such an environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.
