*SUMMARY* The parent educator will work directly with parents of children in the home, providing parents with information regarding child development and effective parenting techniques.
The parent educator will look at the family as a unit, use a strength-based approach, and provide support to the family using screening tools, referrals, and information from reputable sources.
*EDUCATION* The*_ PAT_* program requires that, at a minimum, parent educators have a high school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED) and at least two years' previous supervised work experience with young children and/or parents.
The *_PAT_* program prefers for parent educators to have at least a four-year degree in early childhood education or a related field, or at least a two-year degree, or 60 college hours in early childhood or a related field.
It is recommended that parent educators have prior experience working with young children and/or parents.
*QUALIFICATIONS* To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

* Exceptional organizational skills; proficient computer skills; interpersonal relationship skills; the ability to communicate orally and in writing with the ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment; manage several projects simultaneously; and to adjust to frequently changing demands.
* Possess communication skills in order to verbalize the needs of troubled youth and the agency’s philosophy to the public and be able to communicate and work effectively in a professional manner with other social work personnel.
* Be able to communicate and work effectively with agency personnel and community and state agencies in a productive and professional manner.
* Ability to respond to and manage crisis situations.
* Must have a valid state issued driver’s license and submit to an intensive background investigation.
* Must be willing to adapt and learn court proceeding processes.
* Must be self-motivated and task oriented.
* Must be comfortable speaking in front of small groups.
* Must be willing to travel on occasion.
* Must attend ALL required PAT Training.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* The duties and responsibilities for Parent Educator/Home Visitor of Burlington United Methodist Family Services shall encompass the following: * Recruit families with children for the program in their certification range (i.
e.
Prenatal – 3 and 3 – Kindergarten) giving priority to prenatal clients.
* Schedule visits monthly or twice monthly according to risk factors of the family.
The goal is 100% of families receiving 100% of visits (12 visits/year per low risk families or 24 visits/year per high risk families).
* Prepare age appropriate and needs priority activities and information for each visit.
Parent educator will discuss and set goals with family that helps decide emphasis at each visit.
* Use screening tools as required by PAT National and federal funding, including but not limited to ASQ-3, ASQ-SE, RATS, HITS, HOME Inventory, LSP, Depression Screening, vision screening, and hearing screening tools.
Make appropriate referrals as necessary to supporting organizations and agencies.
* Document all contact with families via online data base systems.
Documentation must be completed within 48 hours of the visit or contact.
Also, maintain files with all paperwork.
* Record all contacts with other agencies/organizations and turn in monthly.
* Administer the WV Survey as required with all families in program.
* As assigned, plan and facilitate group connections.
* Caseload should not exceed 60 visits per month for full time or 30 visits per month per part-time parent educator.
Number of families on caseload is dependent on experience of the educator, how many high-risk families, and distance traveled to family home.
Caseload minimum will be set by supervisor.
* Parent educators will participate in 2 hours of reflective supervision for full-time or 1 hour of reflective supervision for part – time per month.
Parent educator will also participate in same number of separate staff meetings per month.
Parent educators are to work as a team with their supervisor in meeting their families’ needs.
* Parent educators will coordinate group connections.
Programs are required to have 12 group connections per year.
* Parent educators will be registered with WV STARS and participate in a minimum of 20 continuing education hours yearly as required by PAT National and federal funding.
* Must individually pass annual performance review (APR) with no less than 60%.
* Home visits and paperwork will be monitored for quality and fidelity for accreditation requirements and CQI requirements.
* Can support the mission and vision of Burlington United Methodist Family Services as evidenced by compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
* Supports and facilitates positive interaction with others as evidenced by: professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multi-cultural work place.
* Funding is based on grants and can be terminated or extended without notice.

This position will work in an office environment, although sometimes this position must work in extreme weather conditions and potentially hazardous situations due to working in a residential environment.
