Role Overview
Monday – Thursday: Assist other adults with the supervision and care for infants or toddlers in the child development classrooms located at the Washington County Family Center located at 221 McRand Court, Suite 300.
Hagerstown MD 21740.
Fridays: Prepare child development classrooms for the following week and participate in Family Center staff meetings and professional development.
MInimum Requirements High school diploma/GED.
Must meet Highly Qualified status (AA degree, 48 credit hours, or have successfully passed the Paraprofessional Praxis test).
Two (2) years’ experience in a school setting or working with children or combination of education and experience totaling two years.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications Competency with fundamental language and math skills.
Ability to understand and follow directions.
Ability to work harmoniously with children, staff, and community.
Training and experience working with population relevant to the assigned school.
Role Responsibilities Assist other adults with the supervision and welfare of infants and toddlers in the child development classrooms.
State-required adult: child ratios will be maintained.
Work collaboratively with adult volunteers in child development classrooms.
Coach high-school age pregnant or parenting students with learning how to care for their children.
Participate in Family Center staff meetings and professional development opportunities on Fridays when students are not present.
Maintain effective collaboration with both WCPS and Washington County Department of Social Services staff.
Follow all child development program expectations as set forth by the Family Center.
Participate in individual supervision with the on-site Child development Supervisor as scheduled.
Assist with instructional activities.
Assist in maintaining classroom organization and a positive learning environment.
Assist with the use of classroom equipment and materials.
Assist with the supervision and management of students during non-instructional activities.
Support student instructional needs during extended learning/out of school time programs.
Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
Work with individual students and small groups of students to reinforce skills introduced by the teacher(s).
Assist students in generalizing learned social skills and problem-solving skills in the general education environment.
Assist the teacher(s) in devising special strategies for reinforcing skills and instruction.
Assist with physical care and physical management of students as needed and appropriate.
Follow through to carry out individual programs designed by the teacher.
Participate in and/or provides input for team planning functions as appropriate.
Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
