St.
Mary Catholic School, a Pre-K through 8th grade school, located in historic Hagerstown, MD is seeking a full-time Guidance Counselor.
The individual in this position is responsible for overseeing the cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral environment of the school through managing student behavior and addressing the needs of students in an age-appropriate manner.
This position may include other related duties.
Job Responsibilities:
Assist students as an advocate for the development of the whole child.
Provide direct, personal counseling services to students (individual and group) that support the academic, social, and emotional developmental needs of students in the areas of child and adolescent development, education strategies, self-management, and social interaction.
Observe students in classroom environment, assess, and work personally with students to develop coping mechanisms needed for academic success.
Bring a collaborative, data-driven, solutions-oriented attitude to the school administrative team by identifying school needs and outcomes in the areas of academics, attendance, and behavior.
Facilitate communication between parents, teachers, administrators and students about behavior and academic problems to promote constructive participation.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in counseling or related field preferred
Possession of, or willingness obtain, Maryland School Counselor Certification
Deep belief in the potential of all children and the values of Catholic education
Successful experience as a teacher or counselor preferred.
Supports and upholds Catholic moral and social teaching and the mission of St.
Mary Catholic School (practicing Catholic preferred).
