SUMMARY:
The successful applicant will teach beginning, intermediate and advanced string classes in grades 4-12, as well as school-based and all-county orchestras.
Applicant will be responsible for teaching an advanced strings class at a high school for one fine arts credit, assisting and cooperating with the Orchestra Program Director in planning, rehearsing and conducting two yearly all-county orchestra concerts, teaching string classes at various schools and ability levels, and maintaining or establishing liaison to area youth orchestras.
QUALIFICATIONS:
West Virginia teacher certification in Music, K-12, with strong conducting abilities and orchestral performing experience, solid background in string pedagogy, preferably with an emphasis in violin and viola study, organizational aptitude and vision for dynamic school-based orchestra program, and able to relate well to middle and high school age students.
Applicant must be proficient in string orchestra instruments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for facilitating continuous improvement in classroom instruction by providing instructional support to teachers in the areas of lesson design, classroom management, aligning instruction with curriculum, and developing effective classroom assessments.
Demonstrates knowledge of current District standards, benchmarks, and curriculum.
Provides demonstration lessons in curriculum and teaching techniques for classroom teachers and others as required.
Facilitates communication between and among teachers, within and across grade levels.
Possesses advanced knowledge of best practices teaching techniques.
Willingly assists in the implementation of staff development components of the Operational Plan, School Improvement Plans, and new District initiatives.
Plans and provides professional development learning opportunities for classroom teachers by conducting formal workshops, group discussions, and one-on-one support.
Models best practice strategies for teaching adult learners using professional development standards.
Coordinates curriculum and/or program implementation in a cooperative manner with classroom teachers, parents, other staff, and outside resources.
Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing.
May be required to attend evening meetings and work a flexible schedule.
May serve on District committees and/or task forces.
May research, organize, and distribute curriculum materials for district staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
